No More Faking Fine - Ending the Pretending

I am still working my way through the recently released book, No More Faking Fine: Ending the Pretending. I am enjoying it so far and wanted to share some good quotes with you.

Here is one on pretending:

"How often have your tried not to cry your own tears? Maybe you're like me, and you weren't prepared for life to be shockingly painful at times. Or maybe you believe, as I did, that you have to fake fine because God wants strong, un-anxious Christians. I know I am not the only one who minimizes my pain, works hard to get out of it, or just pretends that everything is okay. But I have found that if we minimize our suffering to a 3 on the pain scale, then we only heal at a 3 as well."

On suffering:

"And if we silence our own cries, then we will inevitably silence the cries of those around us. We cannot carefully address the wounds of others if we are carelessly addressing our own."

On healing:

"I assumed God had healed my heart, because I couldn't feel pain anymore. Instead, I had simply mastered suppressing every emotion I ever felt, and I gave God credit for a healing I had never experienced. I was faking fine--not intentionally, not even consciously--but I was not really fine."

On forgiveness:

"When we fake fine, we run the risk of faking forgiveness--and in doing so, we cut ourselves off from the real thing."

Many of you are tired and wounded and need some help through your trials here so here are a few reminders I would like to share with you about overcoming trials:

1. TRIALS ARE TO BE EXPECTED

 "Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when His glory is revealed."  1 Peter 4:12-13

2. TRIALS STRENGTHEN OUR FAITH.

"Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters,[a] whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you." James 1:2-5

3. GOD IS SOVEREIGN IN TRIALS AND WILL HELP US THROUGH THEM

"But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was delivered from the lion’s mouth." 2 Timothy 4:17-18

4. GOD COMFORTS US IN OUR TRIALS (AND HELPS US TO ENCOURAGE OTHERS IN THEIR TRIALS)

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort,  who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ." 2 Corinthians 1:3-5

“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
    I have summoned you by name; you are mine.
When you pass through the waters,
    I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
    they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
    you will not be burned;
    the flames will not set you ablaze.

Isaiah 43:1-2

5. GOD REWARDS THOSE WHO ENDURE TRIALS

 "Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love Him."  James 1:!2

There are many more Bible verses on trials you will be encouraged by here.

Please pray for my adult daughter who is going through effexor withdrawal. She has been sick for over a year and is extremely depressed. She will not accept any help from friends or family. Please pray she will not harm herself in her despondency. Pray for her family also. Thank you.

Great post and one needed by many.
I have become bitter about certain things in my marriage. Danny and I aren't able to really talk about anything important. We use to talk for hours about everything. Now I can't get him to talk at all, except his anger at work and work issues. We live and work at a state park so his WORK affects US DEEPLY.
Danny is in his own little world most of the time now.
I suffer from depression and have serious health issue. Yet, I am always UP and waiting for him when he gets home.
Help me to BITE MY TONGUE more than I do. Keep the tears at bay.
I am having a difficult time talking and praying to God right now. I do but I don't "feel "anything.
Sorry for the ramble. Our marriage is everything YET I am not HAPPY.
